Teaser Tuesday #20

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This Week's Teaser:

He leaned back in his chair and rubbed his chin. What were the chances that this was the same Darcy? Pulling himself back up to the computer, he logged into his Facebook account and searched for a Darcy White in his area. After scrolling through the results, he grinned. There she was, just as beautiful as ever. She sat on a chair with a beer in her hand and a smile across her face, and she appeared to be having a good time. He scrolled quickly through her info, and then matched the email address listed on her page with the email address in his inbox.

It was her. ”

―Lacey Wolfe. Wanted: Wife

I'm reading this one for a blog tour and it seems pretty fun right now! Let's see how it goes. :)

This Week's Teaser:

“Reason fourteen.” I press my forehead against hers, locking her in my gaze. “You are so beautiful. Inside and out. I don’t just need you. I crave you. Everything about you. You are the only person I’ve felt this way about. You’re my best friend.”

―Becca Ann (alias. Cassie Mae). Reasons I Fell for the Funny Fat Friend

Heard sooo many good things about this one. This book is funny, period. But it's just not clicking with me so far. I like so many things about it! The chapters are split into reasons why Brody falls for Hayley, the FFF. Here's how it starts off, and tell me if you don't want to pick it up right away?
Reason 1 : You know how to sign the word 'balls'

This Week's Teaser:

“And that's just it, isn't it? That's how we manage to survive the loss. Because love, it never dies, it never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it.”

“It's okay,' he tells me. 'If you want to go. Everyone wants you to stay. I want you to stay more than I've ever wanted anything in my life.' His voice cracks with emotion. He stops, clears his throat, takes a breath, and continues. 'But that's what I want and I could see why it might not be what you want. So I just wanted to tell you that I understand if you go. It's okay if you have to leave us. It's okay if you want to stop fighting.”

―Gayle Foreman. If I Stay

It's two quotes today. This is my first audio book. And gosh these book is so good! The narrator is soo darn fabulous!! The voice changes, the hitch in a character's voice, the laughter, the sadness. Aah! I'm a little late reading this one, but late is soo much better than never.

P.S- Thought I'd mention, the second quote is the main character's granddad saying the lines. Just the thought behind that offer!

―Kelly Barnhill. Iron Hearted Violet

I really, really enjoyed this one. I was expecting a really light-hearted middle-grade read. This book is actually dark. Lovely really. Hope to put up the review soon :)

Assholes are assholes. Rainbows are pretty. Kittens are cute. Chic flicks are sad. It's the way of things, no explanations.”

Courtney Cole If You Stay (Beautifully Broken #1)

This book is a nice read really. Not great but not bad either. I enjoyed Pax's POV while as Mila just seems to be.. Meh.....

This Week's Teaser:

“Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry.

-------

“Remember when you tried to convince me to feed a poultry pie to the mallards in the park to see if you could breed a race of cannibal ducks?"

"They ate it too," Will reminisced. "Bloodthirsty little beasts. Never trust a duck.”

Cassandra Clare Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices #1)

The first teaser said by Tessa Gray, I chose because I totally agree with the line.

While the second, I happened to open a random page and after flipping a page or two found this one. This is a conversation between James and Will and it was too funny for me to pass up and not post it here.

Thoroughly enjoying the book so far. Can't wait to read more!

You are my new hero. Seriously, I might actually be in love with you now. Would it be awkward if we made out?””

-Rachel Hawkins School Spirits (School Spirits #1)

It's a spin-off of Hex Hall!! Little Izzy Brannick is the main protagonist here. Plus I received this ARC from netgalley. Yay!

And yes this quote is on goodreads too. But it was just so cute and I laughed so yeah, here it is.

This Week's Teaser:

 “Sixteen Moons, Sixteen Years
Sixteen of your deepest fears
Sixteen times you dreamed my tears
Falling, Falling through the years

Sixteen moons, sixteen years
Sound of thunder in your ears
Sixteen miles before she nears
Sixteen seeks what sixteen fears

Sixteen moons, sixteen years
sixteen times you dreamed my fears
Sixteen will try to Bind the spears
Sixteen screams just one hears

Sixteen moons, sixteen years
The Claiming moon, the hour nears
In these pages Darkness clears
Powers bind what fire sears

Sixteeth moon, Sixteenth year
now has come the day you fear
Claim or be Claimed
Shed blood, Shed tear
Moon or Sun- destroy, revere.”

-Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl Beautiful Creatures(Caster Chronicles #1) Chapter 1.

April Read for the Young Adult Blogger Book Club ! #YABBC

So far this is what I've liked in the book. I was not able to pick anything at random, so here's this poem.

As the dance began, the duke bowed low over her hand, sliming it with a kiss. “Your Highness, you are the brightest star in a shining crowd tonight.” It’s only the first dance, and I get the star thing already. Is there some book they all read? Fifty-two Compliments for Ladies. A Beginner’s Guide to Flattery. "

This Week's Teaser:

“Life is just like the game of poker, you never know what cards you will get. Sitting against the people, you can either win with the king or live on a joker.

Many times in life you are forced to play the blind bet, and achieve overwhelming success, with loads of cash in your pocket or you may reach disastrous conclusions, losing everything you have got.

That’s the reason I love playing poker.”

-Abhinav Shrivastava & Prerna Varma. The Dumb and the Dumbfounded (paperback).

Received in exchange for an honest review.
A good read so far. There's humour, friendships, a little romance. A decent debut novel I'd say. Let's see how it goes. =)

I'm reading this one as part of The Indian Quills Reading Challenge 2013 hosted by Reshmy @ The Tales Pensieve .

This Week's Teaser:

Roar leaned across the table and smiled at her seductively, his dark hair falling into his eyes. 'When you say everything happens in the Realms, do you mean everything?'

Aria laughed nervously.'Yes. Especially that. There are no risks in the Realms.'

Roar's smile widened. 'You simply think it and it happens? And it
actually feels real?'

'Why are we talking about this?'

'I need a Smarteye,' he said.  "

-Veronica Rossi. Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky, #1) (e-book).

I actually like it so far. The main protagonists did not start thinking about each others looks and "prettiness" or admire each other from the start and I appreciate that Miss Rossi. I really do !

P.S. - I'm reading this one as a March read for the Young Adult Blogger Book Club ! #YABBC

This Week's Teaser:

" “I thought you were done typing away on that thing?”

God, he’s still here. Focusing hazel eyes at the lavender wall in front of her, Dahlia took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, counting to ten. Feeling a bit calmer, she turned around. She wasn’t surprised to find Sam sitting on the edge of her bed looking quite comfortable as he chewed on her granola bar.

He moved up and down a few times on the mattress, as if to test the springiness of it, his face set deep in concentration. He didn’t look like he was leaving anytime soon. "

I received this one in exchange for a review and it's currently touring! (Is that how you say there's a blog tour going on? - touring? )

This Week's Teaser:

“You think fairy tales are only for girls? Here's a hint - ask yourself who wrote them. I assure you, it wasn't just the women. It's the great male fantasy - all it takes is one dance to know that she's the one. All it takes is the sound of her song from the tower, or a look at her sleeping face. And right away you know - this is the girl in your head, sleeping or dancing or singing in front of you. Yes, girls want their princes, but boys want their princesses just as much. And they don't want a very long courtships. They want to know immediately.”

-Davis Levithan. Dash's chapter (chapter 9, p.96)

“The important people in our lives leave imprints. They may stay or go in the physical realm, but they are always there in your heart, because they helped form your heart. There's no getting over that.”

-Rachel Cohn. Lily's Chapter (chapter 18, p.167)

-Rachel Cohn & David Levithan. Dash & Lily's Book of Dares ( e-galley )

You know the thing about this book is Rachel Cohn wrote the chapters for Lily and David Levithan wrote those for Dash. Umhm. And so far......? I'm liking Dash's chapters way more. But I'm not even through the whole book yet, so let's see how it goes! =D

This Week's Teaser:

“Did you know that in space it's very, very cold? And there's no oxygen? And if an astronaut fell out of a shuttle without his suit he'd die right away?"

I'm a fast learner. "But that would never happen. Because astronauts are really, really careul."

George gives me a smile, the same dazzling sweet smile as his big brother, although at this point, with green teeth. "I might marry you," he allows. "Do you want a big family?”

― Huntley Fitzpatrick, My Life Next Door.

Loving this book so far! I just might have a new book boyfriend ;) . Oh and thought you'd like to know the speaker in this excerpt, George, is a four-year-old.

Teaser Tuesday #5

Ok so I'm done with my chores, wished my far off  bestie a happy birthday, discussed the pro's and con's of forfeiting cake and called a wrong number and didn't understand a word the person on the other side said. Guess I'm done with things to do for the day, so let's get to today's Teaser Tuesday !!

This Week's Teaser:

" Though I could remember every story, every name,
and every death, Jonathan’s story was when I went

from looking forward to seeing the Collector to

running from the Collector. He never gave me any

inclination that Jonathan’s story would be different
from the others. He simply came in every night, sat
down at the end of my bed just as he’d done thousands
of times before, and took forty-eight days to tell me
Jonathan’s story. I thought that he was next, that it was
Jonathan’s turn to be collected. "
